The Society for Transport Infrastructure Maribor invites you to a professional excursion to Ljubljana, where we will visit two construction sites: the upgrade of Ljubljana railway station and the construction of Emonika.

The excursion will take place on Thursday, 8 October 2026.

On the way we will also pick up participants in Slovenska Bistrica and near Žalec (for participants from Koroška). The exact pick-up point and time will be confirmed on registration.

ABOUT THE UPGRADE OF LJUBLJANA RAILWAY STATION

The upgrade of the central part of Ljubljana railway station is a comprehensive renovation and modernisation of the central part of the Ljubljana railway hub (lots B and C). The project includes a new 110-metre overpass with a station hall, linking the existing railway station with the area of the new bus station and providing a pedestrian connection between Masarykova and Vilharjeva cesta. The overpass, with a total gross floor area of approximately 13,700 m², is designed as a demanding steel and reinforced-concrete structure with a glass photovoltaic roof.

An important part of the project is the reconstruction and widening of the underpass, separate pedestrian and cycle routes and the construction of seven new platforms. The project also covers the optimisation of the track layout, 13 new tracks with a total length of 8.47 km, the renewal of existing tracks and approximately 20 km of new overhead contact line. The historic station building from 1849 is preserved in full.

It is a technically and operationally very demanding infrastructure project which, in addition to the railway infrastructure, involves numerous complex construction, structural and traffic works. The contract value of the construction works is EUR 199.94 million excluding VAT, and the project is scheduled for 2024–2026.

ABOUT THE EMONIKA PROJECT

Emonika is one of the largest development projects in the region. In its business part – Emonika Tower and the office premises on the north side – Emonika will bring together more than 35,000 square metres of modern office space. As one of the largest development projects in the region, Emonika will actively contribute to transforming Ljubljana into a modern, sustainable and internationally competitive business centre, placing it alongside other European capitals.

PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT

Both visits take place on an active construction site, so please bring a safety helmet, a high-visibility vest and suitable work or walking footwear. A number of helmets and vests are available on site for those who do not have them, but the organiser cannot provide footwear – without it, entry to the site is not possible.

REGISTRATION

The number of participants is limited to 30, so registrations are taken in order of arrival. Please register at info@dpi-maribor.si and let us know where you will board (Maribor, Slovenska Bistrica or Žalec).

After the visit we will continue the day together over lunch.

PARTICIPATION FEE

The fee is EUR 50 per person and covers the cost of transport and the meal at a nearby restaurant after the visit. It is paid to the society's bank account, IBAN SI56 0451 5000 0970 605 (OTP banka d. d.).
