On 29 May 2025, the professional conference »Development of Maribor Airport and the wider area« took place at Edvard Rusjan Airport Maribor, bringing together key decision-makers, experts and representatives of civil society in one place. The event was organised by the Society for Transport Infrastructure Maribor in cooperation with the University of Maribor, the City Municipality of Maribor, the Municipality of Hoče-Slivnica and the DRC, under the honorary patronage of the Slovenian Chamber of Engineers. The addresses and expert papers painted a comprehensive picture of the airport as a development opportunity for north-east Slovenia, together with the challenges linked to adopting the national spatial plan and decades of stalled investment. The conference concluded with a round table on the development vision for Maribor Airport.
